Rochester Hills, MI- The American Collegiate Hockey Association announced Sunday night that Scott Witmyer was selected to the Division III ACHA National Select Team. The team will compete on the world stage in Europe over Christmas break.
Witmyer was chosen by head coach Mike Petrusma from Calvin College, along with assistant coaches, John Hoos from the University of Georgia, and Craig Bioni from Robert Morris University in PA. The player selection committee began the evaluation process during the 2013-14 season, which culminated in March at the ACHA All-Star Challenge in West Chester, PA. The challenge featured over 200 of the top players in ACHA Division III competing on 10 teams from each of our 4 regions. The Select team will gather for preparations in Atlanta, GA prior to leaving for Europe. The team will be traveling to Austria, Italy, Solvenia and Germany in late December.
Witmyer stated, "This is a dream come true and I am honored to not only represent myself, but to also represent Bryn Athyn College and the Bryn Athyn community during my time in Europe."
In 2013-14, the freshman from Marysville, PA, helped guide Bryn Athyn to their best finish in program history. The Lions finished the season ranked #4 in the Atlantic Region. Witmyer tallied 31 goals and 49 assists for 80 points in just 23 games. He was selected to the ACHA Atlantic All-Region Team, voted the DVCHC Offensive Player of the Year, and voted the Bryn Athyn College "Larry E. Spaulding Male Athlete of the Year" winner.
Head coach, Andrew Burke expressed, "Scott had a tremendous season last year and is an unbelievable offensive talent. He carried his strong play right into the ACHA showcase last spring and helped the DVCHC team to a 5-0 record, while leading the entire tournament in points with 12. Scott will have the chance to play with the best players at the ACHA DIII level. This experience will allow Scott to travel to many different countries and play against some tough European teams. I think this is a once in a life time opportunity for him and he has deserved it through his work ethic and tremendous play over the course of his freshman year. We are proud of Scott for this amazing accomplishment, not only will he be showcasing himself, but he will be representing Bryn Athyn College, the community, and our hockey program. In my opinion, we could not ask for a better individual to represent us on an international stage."
The Lions are off to a hot start in the 2014-15 season with wins in each of their first four games. The Lions will host their home opener against East Stroudsburg on Friday, December 5th at 8:00pm.
