Lions earn 10th victory in NEAC with 87-76 victory over Penn State Berks

Bryn Athyn, Pa - The Bryn Athyn women's basketball team defeated Penn State Berks 87-76 led by five Lions in double digits in scoring at Asplundh Field House on Tuesday night. 

The Lions looking for their fifth straight victory in conference play hosted Penn State Berks on Tuesday night. The Lions found themselves in a battle early with Berks. Keanna Schoennagel gave the Lions the lead, 7-5 after a made three pointer. The Lions took an 8 point lead a few minutes later as Bianca Feliciano's three pointer put the Lions ahead 18-10. Berks would battle back and tie the score after Deanna Daddona hit a three pointer with 19 seconds left in the first quarter. The quarter would end with both teams knotted at 20.

The Lions and Berks exchanged baskets early in the second quarter. With the Lions down 28-27, Keanna Schoennagle, as she did all night, put the Lions back on top with a three pointer with 6 minutes left giving the Lions 30-28 lead. Schoennagle's three poiner sparked an 11-0 run by the Lions. From this point the Lions outscored Berks 24-13 in the quarter, taking an 11 point lead into the half, 44-33. 

In the third, the Lions were able to keep their double digit lead over Berks with their full court press. At the 5:40 mark, the Lions took a 21 point lead after Robin McClinek finished off a three point play after being fouled and made lay up. The Lions largest lead of the game came when Je'La Watson was fouled and made two free throws putting the Lions up by 22, 72-50.

With a substantial lead going into the fourrth the Lions seemed to be well on their way to a comfortable victory. Berks was not going away easy outscoring the Lions 17-6 in the first seven minutes of the fourth cutting the lead to seven, 78-71. A Samantha Hicks three pointer put an end to the Berks run increasing the Lions lead back to 10, 81-71 with 2:33 left in the game. The Lions were able to hold onto the lead and earned their fifth straight win 87-76 moving to 10-2 in the NEAC and 12-5 overall.

The Lions had their most balanced offensive production of the year with 5 players scoring in double digits. Keanna Schoennagle scored a season high 18 points shooting 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. Taylor Davis had a a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, as well Kristina Clark added a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Robin McClinek added 11 points and 9 rebounds and Je'La Watson added 11 points.

The Lions are back in action on Thursday February 4th as they travel across town to take on Penn Abington in their second NEAC match up of the year.
