Men's Ice Hockey Takes Down UPenn

Philadelphia, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team defeated the University of Pennsylvania Quakers 10-1 in Saturday afternoon action.

The Lions got on the board first when Sean Feyler scored at the 11:46 mark. Kyle Jennings followed with a short handed goal to give Bryn Athyn a 2-0 lead half way through the first period. Justin Nugent and Terrence Johnson rounded out the first period scoring, putting the Lions up 4-0.

The Lions remained relatively quiet until an explosion in the last fourth of the second period. DJ Mulhern scored on a rebound, and Benjamin Silvers found the back of the net with ten seconds left. The Lions picked up a 6-0 lead heading into the third period.

Scott Witmyer opened up the third period with a breakaway goal making the score 7-0. UPenn went on to score their lone goal. The Lions responded with four goals of their own to solidify their win, 10-1.

The Lions accumulated 49 shots on goal to the Quakers' 19. Jennings and Witmyer led the Lions with two goals each, while six other Lions notched goals of their own.


Assistant Coach Ian Finnerty expressed, "We preached the defensive side of the puck before the game and kept the team to one goal. We're proud of the effort of the team today. Looking forward we have to put this big win behind us and focus on tomorrow, our first ranked opponent."

The Lions return to action tomorrow on the road against Richard Stockton. The game is slated for 4:20pm.
