Men's Ice Hockey Falls to Pitt-Johnstown in the Atlantic Regional Finals

York, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team fell 4-3 in overtime to Pitt-Johnstown during the finals of the Atlantic Regionals. 

Daniel Triesler led the Lions with two goals. Scott Witmyer and David DalCortivo each added two assists, while Terrence Johnson notched a goal. Dustin Synnestvedt recorded an assist. 

The Lions got on the board first at 16:41 when Witmyer and Synnestvedt connected with Triesler who sent the puck off of the back of the goalie and in. At 9:02 Benjamin Silvers blocked a shot in the slot and made a defensive zone clear to keep UPJ off the board. Three minutes later Synnestvedt blocked a shot on a 2-1 to rob the Ice Cats of a goal. At 2:38 Ray Norfo forced a UPJ player wide on a breakaway, and the Ice Cats were unable to get a shot off. With :44 left in the period, DalCortivo and Witmyer sent a cross ice pass to Johnson who deked the goalie and scored to give the Lions a 2-0 lead going into the second. 

At 14:01 in the second the Ice Cats scored to cut the lead in half. Two quick goals at the 9:39 and 9:15 marks gave UPJ a 3-2 lead going into the final period. 

In the final period of play, Triesler scored top shelf from the right wing at the 12:20 mark to tie the game at 3-3. DalCortivo picked up the assist. Momentum switched back and forth between the Lions and the Ice Cats, leaving the remainder of the period scoreless, forcing a sudden death overtime period. 

The Ice Cats snuck a goal in during the overtime period to secure a 4-3 win over the Lions. 

Bryn Athyn returns to the ice Friday, February 28th to face Neumann in game one of the DVCHC championship.
