Aston, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team defeated Penn State Brandywine 6-4 in the semifinal round of the DVCHC National Division playoffs.
Scott Witmyer and Terrence Johnson led the Lions with four points each. Witmyer recorded three goals and one assist, while Johnson notched three assists and one goal. David DalCortivo added two assists and a goal, while Danny Triesler dished out two assists.
PSU-Brandywine got on the board first at 17:33. The Lions answered at 13:28 when DalCortivo hit a one timer from the point to tie the game at 1-1. Johnson and Triesler picked up the assists. At 12:22 Blake McCurdy blocked a shot in the slot to rob the Nittany Lions of a goal. At 10:31, PSU-Brandywine recorded a power play goal to take a 2-1 lead. With 1:29 left in the period, Johnson, assisted by Triesler, recorded a wrap-around power play goal to tie the game at 2-2 going into the break.
The Lions came out hungry in the third, taking a 5-3 lead when Witmyer connected with Johnson who sent the puck through traffic and found Sean Feyler for the goal. Three minutes later, PSU-Brandywine came within one. With :43 left in regulation, the Lions found themselves on a penalty kill. The Nittany Lions pulled their goalie for a 6-4 man advantage, but it wasn't enough. Witmyer cleared the puck and scored an empty netter to lift the Lions 6-4 over PSU-Brandywine. Benjamin Silvers picked up the assist.
Graham Lermitte made 42 saves between the pipes for the Lions.
