BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's tennis team picked up its second victory in as many matches as the Lions edged out Delaware Valley University 5-4 in a non-conference match on the Gladish Courts on Saturday.
Bryn Athyn (2-0) was awarded two points at the beginning of the contest as Delaware Valley (1-7) had only five available players, giving the Lions points at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
After the Aggies trimmed the gap to 2-1 with a win at No. 2 doubles, the Lions' top doubles pair of Amit Padmanabhan and Drew Heller scored Bryn Athyn's third point as they defeated Zack Harcom and Ryan Lombardo 8-5.
Padmanabhan carried the momentum from the doubles win over to singles play as he easily dispatched on Harcom in a battle of No. 1s 6-1, 6-1 to move the Lions within a point of victory.
Jacob Elder, playing in his first singles match for Bryn Athyn, secured the victory with a straight-set 6-0, 7-5 triumph over Anthony Synder in the No. 5 flight.
Bryn Athyn ends its season-opening straight of three consecutive home matches on Monday, March 26 with a non-conference match against Eastern at 3:30 p.m.
