Bryn Athyn, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team defeated Richard Stockton 8-3 in Sunday afternoon action.
Scott Witmyer and Sean Feyler led the Lions with two goals and two assists each. Terrence Johnson added three assists and a goal, while Travis McCurdy notched a hat-trick. Ray Norfo recorded two assists.
Richard Stockton got on the board first 13 seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead. The Lions answered at 15:48 with a power play goal scored by McCurdy in the slot off a centering pass from Norfo and David DalCartivo. Four minutes later, Norfo and Danny Triesler found Witmyer on the left post for the go ahead goal. At 5:53, the Ospreys tied the game at 2-2. 28 seconds later, the Lions took the lead when Witmyer scored post side. With a Bryn Athyn player in the box for checking from behind at the 3:00 mark, Stockton tied the game at 3-3.
After the first break, the Lions went on to score five unanswered goals. At 16:20 in the second period, Feyler picked up the rebound to give the Lions a 4-3 lead. Witmyer and Johnson picked up the assists. At 11:15, Johnson and Feyler connected with McCurdy who found the back of the net from the right wing. Three minutes later Witmyer and Feyler found Johnson for a backdoor goal to take a 6-3 lead going into the third.
At 10:18 in the third period, Jordan Roth and Johnson found Feyler on the left post for a backdoor goal. At 7:13, Graham Lermitte made three consecutive saves during a five on three Bryn Athyn penalty kill to keep the Ospreys from chipping away at Bryn Athyn's lead. At 6:04, McCurdy scored a backhanded top shelf goal on a breakaway for the final goal of the game.
Lermitte recorded 31 saves in goal for the Lions.
McCurdy stated, "We recovered strongly from last nights loss. Even though we took some penalties in today's game, we cut down on the unnecessary ones. Overall, it was a good team win and a much needed one for the standings."
Head Coach Andrew Burke added, "It was a good team win. Our guys responded well today. Overall, the boys are pleased with the weekend and they are focused on the next task at hand."
The Lions return to conference action on the road against East Stroudsburg. The game is slated for 8:00pm.
