Bryn Athyn, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team got the chance today to play on their home early due to a malfunction at Warwick Ice Rink. The Lions defeated #13 UNC Wilmington 6-3 on Sunday morning non-conference action.
Bryn Athyn finished the weekend 3-0, in the Empire Classic.
Danny Triesler led the Lions with a hat-trick. Terrence Johnson scored one goal and three assists. Jayson Marbach put up three assists. Blake McCurdy and Travis McCurdy scored a goal each in the win tonight.
Bryn Athyn grabbed the lead first 9:39 left in the first period. Travis McCurdy scored from top of the point to lift the Lions 1-0. But the Hawks didn't waste anytime to get on the board, to tie game at 1-1 with 5:25 left in the period. Both teams went into the first break tied at 1-1.
With 10:59 in the second, the Lions had the lead when Marbach took a shoot from the right circle, Treisler trailing behind him on the other side. Marbach's fired a shot that hit the post and dropped in the crease, for Treisler to crash the box and score. The Hawks answered, just two minutes later on a short-handed goal to tie the game at 2-2. Treisler would score his second goal of the night with 4:20 left in the second. Marbach's shot hit the goal's pad and Treisler backhanded in the rebound.
Going into the second break, the Lions led 3-2.
UNW tied the game four minutes into the last period to tie the game for the third time. After fighting off multiple penalties, the Blake McCurdy scored the game-winning goal at 8:06. Dustin Synnestvedt passed McCurdy the puck from the back-door to the crease. McCurdy scored stick side high to lift the Lions. Bryn Athyn would score two more goals to end the period and skate away with a 6-3 win.
