West Chester, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team fell 6-4 to PSU Brandywine in Friday night action.
Scott Witmyer led the Lions with two goals. DJ Mulhern and Blake McCurdy had a goal each. Terrence Johnson recorded two assists.
During the first period of play, PSU Brandywine took an early lead, scoring at the 18:59 mark. At 11:17, Dexter found Johnson who connected with Mulhern in the slot, to tie the game at 1-1. With a Bryn Athyn player in the box for tripping, the Nittany Lions capitalized to take a 2-1 lead. With 21 seconds left in the period, Travis McCurdy passed up the ice to Johnson on the blue line. Johnson crossed the puck to Witmyer who deked the goalie, to tie the game at 2-2.
In the second period, Martin found Blake McCurdy in front of the net at the 18:18 mark for the go ahead goal. At the 6:40 mark, PSU Brandywine tied the game again at 3-3.
During the final period of play, at the 6:22 mark, Witmyer toe dragged around a defenseman and recorded a power play goal to take a 4-3 lead. Two minutes later, the Nittany Lions tied it up at 4-4. Less than a minute later, PSU Brandywine scored again, taking a 5-4 lead. With 45 seconds left in the game, Bryn Athyn pulled their goalie for an extra man, but it wasn't enough. With 39 seconds left, the Nittany Lions scored an empty net goal to secure the win.
Kyle Watters recorded 44 saves in goal for the Lions.
The Lions return to the ice Saturday, November 9th to face Alvernia. The game is set for 8:30pm.
