Bryn Athyn, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College athletic department named, Freshman Blake McCurdy, the recipient of the Larry E. Spaulding Male Athlete of the Year Award.

The Larry E. Spaulding Male Athlete of the Year Award is named after a young man who lost his life in the Vietnam War in 1969. He was a skillful athlete, a loyal and dedicated competitor and to quote his coach, a thoroughly nice likeable fellow.

McCurdy brings a positive, cheerful attitude to every practice and contest. He combines natural athleticism with dedication to hard work.

He is a member of both our soccer and hockey programs. This past fall while playing soccer, he tallied 9 goals for the lions. He scored a goal in every game he was on offense, as he split time in goal for the Lions. He played in 2 games in which he scored more than one goal.

In the winter he played hockey for Bryn Athyn College. He tallied a team high 18  goals and added  6  assists for 24 points. He scored 3 natural hat tricks on the season, and even tallied 4 goals in one game. He was voted Most Valuable Player by his peers for hockey and named the coaches award winner in soccer.  His coaches praise him for his sportsmanship and dedication.

On the field or on the ice he has a commanding presence, leading and motivating his teammates by example. He participated with his teammates in many service events, including Stop Hunger Now, Christmas Toy drive and a Canned Food Drive.

Congratulations to Blake McCurdy. GO LIONS!!
