BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's lacrosse team will play its biggest game of the season up to this point on Wednesday, April 4 when the Lions host the three-time reigning and defending North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) champion Morrisville State at 4 p.m. on General Ronald K. Nelson Field.
LAST TIME OUT
The Lions opened NEAC play off on a high note with a 13-7 victory over SUNY Cobleskill on March 28. Cameron Leech led the offense with a seven-point performance consisting of three goals and four assists. Jon Carr added three goals and four ground balls.
Morrisville State notched a 9-5 win over Hilbert in its NEAC opener on March 28. Six different Mustangs scored in the victory, led by two-goal efforts from Brad Biggs and Peter Pina.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the fifth meeting between the two teams with Bryn Athyn playing host for the first time since the inaugural meeting on April 25, 2015. Morrisville State leads the all-time series 4-0, including a 17-7 win last season in New York.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Bryn Athyn (2-5, 1-0 NEAC) is wrapping up a four-game homestand against Morrisville State. The Lions are 1-2 and averaging 10.0 goals per game, 0.29 above their season average, in the first three matches.
Cameron Leech continues to lead the NEAC in points (38) and assists (22). He tied his season-high of seven points in the victory over SUNY Cobleskill. Leech is seventh in Division III in assists per game (3.14) and 11th in points per game (5.43). He has 10 goals and eight assists during the homestand.
Nolan Frame—the NEAC's third-highest goal scorer with a team-high 19 goals—extended his goal streak to seven matches after a two-goal night against the Fighting Tigers. Frame sits second in the conference with five man-up goals.
Jon Carr recorded his second hat-trick of the season last Wednesday night to move his season total to 17, which is fourth in the NEAC. He has three or more points in four of the seven matches. Carr added a season-high four ground balls.
The Lions did not have a man-up opportunity against the Fighting Tigers, snapped the team's string of games with a man-up goal at six. Bryn Athyn is second in the NEAC with a 35.7 man-up conversion percentage.
Bryn Athyn attempted a season-high 43 shots, 11 more than its second-highest total of the year.
SCOUTING MORRISVILLE STATE
Morrisville State (2-7, 1-0 NEAC) has won two of its last three contests after starting the season 0-6. The Mustangs on the road for the seventh time and are 1-5 in their first six matches. The team is scoring 7.50 goals per game and allowing 13.50 goals per game away from home.
Nick Geswaldo and Logan Peters are pacing the offense with 22 points each, which places them both sixth in the conference. Geswaldo is ranked second in the NEAC with a team-best 20 goals. Four of his 20 goals have come a man-up. He had one goal against Hilbert, snapping a streak of four straight games with at least three goals. Peters leads the Mustangs, and is third in the NEAC, with 12 assists. He is currently on a four-game point streak.
Trevor Jones is second on Morrisville State with 11 goals but hasn't scored in the last two contests.
The Mustangs won over 50 percent of their faceoffs for the first time this season in the win over the Hawks going 12-for-18. Nate McCormick is Morrisville State's primary faceoff taker and is sixth in the league with 36 faceoff wins.
Dan Sherlock has played all 540 minutes in the Morrisville State crease. He has a 51.4 save percentage, a conference-high 110 saves, and a 11.56 goals against average.
