Men's Ice Hockey Hosts Pair of Crucial DVCHC Contests

Bryn Athyn, Pa. - Bryn Athyn College men's hockey team hosts two Delaware Valley Collegiate Hockey Conference (DVCHC) teams this weekend.

The Lions are currently third in the American Division with a record of 4-3 and are riding a three game conference win streak.

On Friday night the Lions take on Lehigh University. They're currently second to last place in the American Division with a record of 1-4. The last time the two teams met, the Lions shut-out Mountain Hawks, 5-0 at home.

Terrence Johnson recorded his second hat-trick of the season . Travis McCurdy and David DalCortivo each notched two assists, while Cade Gurney recorded a goal and an assist. Benjamin Silvers, Patrick Linehan, and Jordan Roth added an assist a piece, and Blake McCurdy notched a goal.  

Three minutes into the first period, DalCortivo  and Travis McCurdy passed through traffic in front of the net, and Gurney tipped the puck in, giving Bryn Athyn a 1-0 lead. With 59 seconds left in the period, Silvers found Johnson on the left wing, and Johnson one timed the puck off a defensive player and into the net. 

During the second period of play, the defense for both teams fought hard, leaving the period scoreless. At the 7:30 mark, Lehigh found themselves on a breakaway, but Steven Altman held strong in goal, recording a glove save, and robbing the Mountain Hawk's of a goal. 

At the 16:41 mark in the third period, Linehan took a shot that was deflected by Travis McCurdy, and Blake McCurdy found the puck off the rebound for the goal. With a Lehigh player in the box for high-sticking, Roth and DalCortivo  found Johnson at the left point to record a power play goal.  At the 11:14 mark, Gurney connected with Johnson who scored a five-hole goal short-handed.

Altman notched 20 saves in goal to record the shutout for the Lions. Bryn Athyn outshot Lehigh 52-20.

Bryn Athyn wraps up the weekend against Shippensburg University. The Big Red is in second place of the American Division and one spot above the Lions. 

Shippensburg is led by Austin Rinck, who has scored 13 goals and put up eight assists in conference action. Robert Lee has scored seven goals and notched eight assists also in conference play. Between the pipes, Gage Cvijic has a 5-1 record and a .936 save percentage. 

Last time the two teams played at Shippensburg, the Lions fell 5-3 in their first game of the season.

Danny Triesler recorded two goals, while Terrence Johnson notched two assists. Jordan Roth registered a goal. 

Shippensburg started off the game strong, scoring nine seconds in to the first period. At the 13:26 mark, the Raiders scored again, taking a 2-0 lead. At the 13:00 mark, the Lions had a chance when Roth took the puck up the ice on a breakaway, but missed just wide. Shippensburg scored again at the 2:24 mark, taking a 3-0 lead into the second period. 

During the second period of play, the Raiders took a commanding 4-0 lead, with a goal at the 17:03 mark. The Lions then capitalized on a power play at the 8:52 mark, when Triesler scored off a back door pass from Johnson and Ben Silvers. 

Bryn Athyn's defense came out strong in the third period, holding the Raiders to one goal. Four minutes into the period, Johnson passed the puck into the slot and connected with Triesler, who deked the goalie and found the back of the net. Six minutes later Roth scored off a rebound from the goalie's pads to record an unassisted goal. 

Graham Lermitte recorded 34 saves between the pipes.
