Aston, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team took game 1 of the DVCHC Championship series 6-2 against Rowan in Friday night action.
Travis McCurdy led the Lions with a goal and two assists. Blake McCurdy and Danny Triesler also had multiple-point nights, with McCurdy notching two goals, and Triesler adding two assists. Cade Gurney, Andrew Dexter, and Patrick Huber each registered a goal, while Jordan Roth and Dustin Synnestvedt recorded an assist each.
The Lions got on the board first at the 17:35 mark, when Travis McCurdy sent the puck down the boards. The puck took a bounce off the boards and found its way into the slot, where Blake McCurdy finished it off for the go ahead goal.
During the second period of play, Rowan scored at the 19:25 mark to tie the game at 1-1. Two minutes later, Roth took a shot on goal, and Huber put the puck in off the rebound, with Triesler picking up the second assist. At the 11:14 mark, Blake McCurdy scored his second goal of the game unassisted. With 3:38 left in the period, Travis McCurdy sent a backhand pass to Gurney for the top shelf goal, giving Bryn Athyn a commanding 4-1 lead.
During the final period of play, Rowan scored at the 12:17 mark to cut the Lions' lead in half. Two minutes later, Travis McCurdy scored a top shelf goal unassisted. With 4:39 left in the period, Triesler and Synnestvedt found Dexter, who one timed the puck in from the right wing for the final goal of the game.
Graham Lermitte record 31 saves between the pipes.
The Lions return to the ice Saturday, February 23rd for game 2 of the DVCHC Championship series. The puck is set to drop at 5:45pm in rink 3 at IceWorks Skating Complex in Aston, Pa.
