Weston, MA -  The Bryn Athyn College men's lacrosse program kicked off the 2015 season with a win over Regis College by the score of 12-8. The Lions move to 1-0 on the season, while the Regis College Pride drop to 2-1. 

The Lions have many new faces on the roster, but no one larger than the new head coach Johnny Mouradian. Mouradian was hired at the end of the 2014 season and quickly overhauled the Lions. Mouradian came to Bryn Athyn with a long coaching resume in the professional indoor game and a successful career coaching the Canadian National Field Team. 

As the rain fell in Weston, MA today, the Lions looked to start the season off with a win. Junior captain, Ryan Landels, would get the scoring started with a rip past the Regis goalie at 12:29 of the first quarter. The teams would trade offensive chances to start the game. Bryn Athyn would be strong on the ground balls all game, but especially in the 1st quarter. Andrew Coyle would scoop a ground ball off a Nolan Frame shot on goal and pass to Conner Buick, who put home his first goal of his career at 8:01. Regis would attempt to take control of the game with multiple shots on goal, but Rob Moran was up to the test. Moran would make three key saves in the opening 10 minutes to keep the game at 2-0. Moran would make a strong save at 3:13 which lead to a Bryn Athyn transition. Christian Blair would get his first of the season at 2:16 of the 1st. Regis would add two goals late in the first, but the Lions would hold a 3-2 lead at the end of one. 

Regis would take the momentum into the 2nd quarter, scoring just 1 minute into the 2nd to tie the game at 3. The Pride would keep the offensive push going and looked to capitalize on a Bryn Athyn penalty at 12:33. Regis maintained ball possession and would score at 12:07 to take the lead 4-3. Conner Buick would win a key faceoff and a loose ball scooped by Quintin Harrish would give the Lions possession. Quintin Harrish would pass the ball to Blair at the top of the zone. Blair would man up with his defender, took one step and beat the Pride goalie to knot the game at 4. The Lions would lock down their defense with a key strip by Colten Harrish and would clear the ball to his brother Quintin Harrish, Quintin would should the ball wide. One the possession, Ryan Landels would shoot, only to be saved by the Pride goalie. But the Lions would strike on a failed clear attempt. Andrew Coyle would scoop a loose ball and pass to Frame, who would net his second goal of the game. The teams would enter the half with the Lions leading 5-4. 

Regis would start the 2nd half off with a key possession of the opening faceoff. The Pride would sprint down the field and put one past Lion goalie, Rob Moran to tie the game at 5. Regis would throw 7 more shots on the Lion tender over the next 4 minutes, but Moran would stand his ground. Ryan Landels would scoop up a ground ball at 10:51 of the 3rd, and pass to Conner Buick. Buick would beat his man and pass to Andrew Coyle, who would beat the Regis goalie to put the Lions up 6-5 with 10 minutes remaining in the quarter. Frame would get his third of the game at 8:48 on a rebound off a Landels shot. The Lions would extend the lead to 7-5. Frame commented, "We stuck to our principles and played like we knew we could to open the game." The Lions would score three more goals to end the half with a 10-6 lead. 

Bryn Athyn would look to the strong defensive play of Nick Fetko, Colten Harrish, Mike Donnelly and Mark Strange to keep the Pride off the board. The defensive crew would keep the Pride to the outside for most of the open minutes of the 4th, making shots easy to see for goaltender Rob Moran. The Pride would finally connect with a goal at 7:30 to bring the game to 10-7. Conner Buick would net two more goals to end the game. Buick would finish with a four goal game. 

Head Coach Johnny Mouradian comment, "Very proud of our players for playing with the drive and determination necessary to be successful. They battled through the rain and cold. They stuck to the game plan and we were true to our principles."

Rob Moran finished the game with 17 saves in net.

The Lions with the opener 12-8 and move to 1-0 on the season. They return to action when they host Immaculata on Wednesday for their home opener.
