Aston, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team defeated Lehigh 4-0 in Saturday night action, securing a spot in the semifinals of the DVCHC playoffs.
Terrence Johnson led the team with two goals and one assist. Ray Weissler and Ray Norfo also had multiple-point nights, with Weissler recording a goal and an assist, and Norfo notching two assists.
During the first period of play possession switched back and forth between the Lions and Mountain Hawks, leaving the first 15 minutes scoreless. At the 4:12 mark, Weissler and Norfo found Johnson for the back door top shelf goal, giving Bryn Athyn a 1-0 lead going into the second.
At 12:30 in the second period, Johnson entered the zone and dropped the puck to Norfo, who passed the puck along to boards back to Johnson behind the net. Johnson centered the puck and connected with Weissler, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead. At the 4:39 mark Cade Gurney and Patrick Huber connected with Blake McCurdy for the wrap around goal.
With two minutes left in the game, David DalCortivo crossed the puck from the right wing to Johnson for the backdoor goal.
Steven Altman recorded the shutout between the pipes for the Lions.
Altman expressed, "The boys had a strong game. It's a new season nobody is easy to play against this time of year. We were a little nervous but that first goal got us moving in the right direction and the nerves out of the way. It's win 1 of 4 we can't be satisfied moving forward, but a strong start."
Johnson stated, "Tonight was a playoff win. We will enjoy it, but we know tomorrow is going to be a battle."
The Lions return to the ice tomorrow night to face Shippensburg in the semifinals. The puck is set to drop at 5:40pm in rink 3 at IceWorks Skating Complex.
