Men's Ice Hockey Sails Past Shippensburg, 6-5

Bryn Athyn, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team picked up their fifth consecutive conference win, defeating Shippensburg 6-5 in Saturday night action. The Lions have gone 9-0 against D3 opponents in the last month. 

Bryn Athyn is currently 11-9 overall and 5-3 in Delaware Valley Collegiate Hockey Conference action.

David DalCortivo led the Lions with three assists. Bryn Athyn also benefitted from multiple-point nights from Ray Norfo, Danny Triesler, Terrence Johnson, Blake McCurdy, and Travis McCurdy. Norfo, Triesler, and the McCurdy brothers each notched a goal and an assist, while Johnson recorded two goals. 

During the first period of play, Norfo scored five-hole at 17:54, deflecting a shot from Ray Weissler. Triesler picked up the second assist. At the 10:58 mark, Norfo and DalCortivo crossed the puck to Jordan Roth for the backdoor goal. Three minutes later Johnson converted a pass from DalCortivo, giving the Lions a 3-0 lead going into the second.

Shippensburg came out strong in the second, shutting out the Lions and scoring three goals at the 15:12, 13:32, and 8:34 marks.  

Thirty seconds into the third, Blake McCurdy scored top-left corner, deflecting a shot from Patrick Huber, with Travis McCurdy picking up the second assist. Less than a minute later, the Raider's scored, tying the game at 4-4. At the 9:26 mark, DalCortivo passed from the wall, and found Johnson who scored low blocker to put the Lions out in front. Thirty seconds later, Graham Lermitte made a diving save, keeping Bryn Athyn's lead alive. At 4:35, Blake McCurdy found Triesler in the slot, giving the Lion's a two goal lead. Travis McCurdy recorded the second assist. With twenty seconds left in the period, Shippensburg scored, bringing the game within one. Following the final face-off, Shippensburg gained possession and skated the puck up the boards. With one second left in the game, the Raiders took a shot from the left wing, but it wasn't enough. Lermitte stopped the puck, giving the Lions a 6-5 victory. 

Lermitte recorded 42 saves between the pipes.

The Lions return to the ice Wednesday, February 6th to face Drexel. The game is slated for 8:00pm.
