Bryn Athyn, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team picked up their third consecutive win, defeating Lehigh 5-0 in Monday night action.
Terrence Johnson recorded his second hat-trick of the weekend. Travis McCurdy and David Dalcartivo each notched two assists, while Cade Gurney recorded a goal and an assist. Benjamin Silvers, Patrick Linehan, and Jordan Roth added an assist a piece, and Blake McCurdy notched a goal.
Three minutes into the first period, Dalcartivo and Travis McCurdy passed through traffic in front of the net, and Gurney tipped the puck in, giving Bryn Athyn a 1-0 lead. With 59 seconds left in the period, Silvers found Johnson on the left wing, and Johnson one timed the puck off a defensive player and into the net.
During the second period of play, the defense for both teams fought hard, leaving the period scoreless. At the 7:30 mark, Lehigh found themselves on a breakaway, but Steven Altman held strong in goal, recording a glove save, and robbing the Mountain Hawk's of a goal.
At the 16:41 mark in the third period, Linehan took a shot that was deflected by Travis McCurdy, and Blake McCurdy found the puck off the rebound for the goal. With a Lehigh player in the box for high-sticking, Roth and Dalcartivo found Johnson at the left point to record a power play goal. At the 11:14 mark, Gurney connected with Johnson who scored a five-hole goal short-handed.
Altman notched 20 saves in goal to record the shutout for the Lions. Bryn Athyn outshot Lehigh 52-20.
Johnson stated, "Having three games in four days, and going 3-0 is tremendous for any team, but especially for our team. Now we have to get back to work on and off the ice as we prepare for a big game against Rowan."
Altman expressed, "The team played really well tonight coming off of a long weekend that included travel. They made it easy for me during the game by not allowing guys to pick up rebounds and forcing them to the outside. They came prepared and played with passion. That's what got us two big points."
Assistant Coach Burke added, "Another great win tonight. The guys really battled a tough Lehigh team, but they did it as one unit and played a complete game. The guys really faced a tough challenge with three games in four nights, but I think we are back to our game now.
The Lions host conference opponent Rowan on Friday, January 25th. The game is slated for 8:00pm.
