HENNIKER, N.H. – Goaltender McKenzie Chalmers racked up 38 saves on 39 shots for the Bryn Athyn College ice hockey team, but it wasn't enough as the Lions ended the opening weekend of the season with a 2-0 loss to New England College Saturday afternoon.

Adam Zollner gave the host Pilgrims a 1-0 lead at the 16:26 mark of the opening period. Bryce Nielsen threw the puck into the slot where Zollner would collect it and shoot it past a downed Chalmers.

Then, Chalmers became a wall in net for the Lions (0-2) as he stopped the next 30 New England College shots he faced.

With 1:36 left in the contest, Bryn Athyn took a penalty forcing them to pull Chalmers for an extra attacker at the 19:04 mark. Thirteen seconds later, the Pilgrims' Mike Whitehair cashed in on the empty net to make the score 2-0.

Christoffer Sjoo stopped 18 shots to earn the shutouts.

The Lions were outshot 40-18. New England College was 1-for-4 on the power play, while Bryn Athyn was 0-1.

Bryn Athyn travels to Post University for a weekend series against the Division II Eagles on Nov. 4-5 in Waterbury, Conn.
