Pennsauken, NJ- The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team defeated Rutgers-Camden 9-0 in Friday night action.
David Dalcartivo led the Lions with six assists. Ray Norfo added two goals and two assists, while Terrence Johnson notched two goals and an assist. Blake McCurdy recorded two goals, Andrew Dexter added a goal and an assist, and Cade Gurney notched two assists.
During the first period of play, Bryn Athyn got on the board at the 12:25 mark when Dalcartivo took a slapshot off of a center pass from Gurney, and Blake McCurdy found the puck on the rebound for the goal. Momentum switched back and forth for the remainder of the period, leaving the Lions with a 1-0 lead going into the second.
Bryn Athyn came out strong in the second period, scoring five goals. One minute into the period, Travis McCurdy and Gurney connected with Blake McCurdy for the back door goal. At the 13:33 mark Benjamin Silvers crossed the puck to Johnson, who one timed it in from the right wing. One minute later, Dalcartivo and Norfo connected with Jordan Roth, who shot the puck five-hole for the goal. At the 10:40 mark, with the Raptors' goalie out of position, the Lions capitalized when Dalcartivo and Norfo passed the puck from behind the net and found Johnson. With three minutes left in the period, Silvers passed to Dalcartivo who cycled low on the left hand side and connected with Norfo at the point for a top shelf goal.
During the final period of play, Dexter and Dalcartivo found Steve Cappas at the 15:43 mark for his first goal of the season. Three minutes later, Johnson and Ray Weissler connected with Norfo for his second goal of the night. At the 10:34 mark Roth and Dalcartivo passed the puck into the slot, and found Dexter for the final goal of the game.
Graham Lermitte recorded 28 saves between the pipes to record the shutout for the Lions.
Blake McCurdy expressed, "The team had the heart to win tonight. We left everything on the ice and good things happened. We are playing as a team, and winning as a team. No one can beat hard work. Scoring the first goal is just the first step to winning the game."
Dalcartivo added, "The power play looked really good tonight. We capitalized on the five minute power play in the second. Everyone was really moving well off the puck, and we finished strong tonight."
Assistant Coach Burke stated, "It was a team effort tonight. We got goals from all of our lines, highlighted by our special teams play. Lermitte played an exceptional game in goal tonight. He kept us alive early in the game."
The Lions return to the road Saturday, January 19th to face Dickinson. The puck is set to drop at 9:15 pm.
