Bryn Athyn, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team out-shot Richard Stockton 46-28 en route to an 8-4 victory during Sunday night non conference action.
Travis McCurdy led the team with three goals and an assist, recording his first hat-trick. Ray Weissler notched three assists, while Terrence Johnson recorded two goals. Jordan Roth, and Blake McCurdy each added one goal and one assist. Ray Norfo notched a goal, and Cade Gurney recorded an assist.
The Lions started out strong, scoring 41 seconds into the game when Norfo hit the top right shelf off a pass from Weissler and Dalcartivo. The Ospreys answered four minutes later at the 15:33 mark. At 8:47 Travis McCurdy connected with Johnson who tapped the puck in for the goal. At the 3:51 mark, Richard Stockton scored, tying the game at 2-2. The Ospreys scored again on a power play and took a 3-2 lead with 45 seconds left in the period.
In the second period of play, momentum switched back and forth between the Lions and the Ospreys. At the 14:58 mark, Graham Lermitte made a diving save, robbing Richard Stockton of a goal. As possession continued to change back and forth, the defensemen for both teams held strong, leaving the period scoreless.
During the final period of play, Gurney passed the puck into the slot and connected with Travis McCurdy who one-timed the puck in, tying the game at 3-3. At the 8:47 mark, Richard Stockton took a 4-3 lead. Bryn Athyn picked up the moment, and went on to score five unanswered goals. At the 6:41 mark, Weissler won the face off and found Roth for the goal. One minute later, during a scramble in front of the net, Blake McCurdy passed the puck into the slot and connected with Travis McCurdy, giving the Lions a 5-4 lead. At the 3:55 mark, Weissler crossed the puck in front of the net and found Johnson for the back door goal. With two minutes left in the period, Richard Stockton pulled their goalie for a one-man advantage. Travis McCurdy capitalized on the empty net, scoring an unassisted goal at the 1:43 mark. With four seconds left in the period, Blake McCurdy scored the final goal of the game off a pass from Roth.
Lermitte played well between the pipes, recording 28 saves.
The Lions return to the ice January 11th to host Drexel. The game is slated for 8:00pm.
