BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team will look to bounce back from consecutive single possession setbacks when the Lions take to the court in Asplundh Field House to take on Wilson College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Bryn Athyn (7-12, 4-6 NEAC) dropped a 90-89 road NEAC contest to Penn State Barks on Jan. 27. The Lions had an 89-85 lead with 1:32 left, but the host Nittany Lions scored the final five points for the game to steal the win. Rahim Washington—who had 16 points—had a shot for the win, however, his layup at the buzzer was no good.
Lamarr Crenshaw paced Bryn Athyn with 23 points and seven rebounds. Larry Stevenson III recorded 22 points and six steals.
Wilson (12-6, 6-3 NEAC) had its six-game winning streak snapped with a one-point defeat to Lancaster Bible, 76-75, on Jan. 24. Willie McDowell had a team-high 19 points for the Phoenix, while Zachary Powell added 18 points. Rashaan Bean had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
SERIES HISTORY
Bryn Athyn took the all-time series lead over Wilson, 4-3, thanks to an 80-76 win in Chambersburg, Pa. on Dec. 2, 2017. Christian Rivera had his best performance of the season in the win as he recorded a season-high 22 points and 10 rebounds. The Lion defense posted 12 steals.
The Lions are 2-1 against the Phoenix in Asplundh Field House, including a 79-61 victory last season on Feb. 1, 2017.
The two teams ended up splitting the season series in all three seasons.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Lamarr Crenshaw has been strong of the Lions in the last four games, being the team's leading scorer in three of those games, and averaging 20.5 points on 72.1 percent shooting and 7.3 rebounds per game. He is back in the top-ten in scoring at 10th with 16.1 points per game, 17.9 points in conference play. One of the league's top shooters, Crenshaw is seventh in the NEAC with 110 made baskets and fourth with a 54.5 field goal percentage. He is also seventh with 68 made free throws.
Larry Stevenson III continued his solid play with his third 20+-point performance in the last six games. He is putting up 17.5 points over that span on 46.3 percent 3-point shooting and helping out defensively with 17 steals. Stevenson III lifted his season average to 9.3 points per game. Having made 25 3-pointers over the last half-dozen contests, Stevenson III is up to 12th in made 3-pointers with 38. He is also seventh in the conference with 35 steals.
Rahim Washington is holding down third in the NEAC in scoring with 18.9 points per game. Washington shits third with 122 made baskets, 41 3-pointers which is eighth in the conference.
Christian Rivera has tallied 42 assists during the month of January and climbed to third in the NEAC with 74 assists.
SCOUTING WILSON
Wilson goes into Wednesday's encounter with the third in the conference in scoring with 79.2 points per game. The Phoenix attempt more 3-pointers than anyone in the NEAC with 27.4 per game and also make the most in the NEAC with 10.3 per game. Wilson is third in 3-point shooting at 37.7 percent. They also attempt the most free throws in the league with 24.7 per game.
The Phoenix has five players averaging in double figures, led by Keion Adams' 14.8 points per game. Adams is third in the league in rebounding (9.5 per game) and blocked shots (28), fourth in made 3-pointers (44), and fifth in free throw percentage (81.6 percent). He has made at least two 3-pointers in 11 of the last 12 games.
Rashaan Bean, who is contributing 14.7 points per game, is the conference's fifth-best 3-pointer shooter with 44 made triples and a 3-point shooting percentage of 43.1.
Zachary Powell sits third in the NEAC in free throw shooting at 87.5 percent and seventh in 3-point shooting at 42.6 percent. Powell is scoring 13.3 points per game.
