Reading, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team fell 7-2 on the road to Alvernia in Sunday night action.
Travis McCurdy and Terrence Johnson led the team with a goal a piece. Cade Gurney, Jordan Roth, and Patrick Huber each notched an assist.
During the first period of play, Alvernia started out strong, taking a 3-0 lead going into the second period.
In the second period of play, at the 16:20 mark, Bryn Athyn got on the board when Gurney passed the puck into the slot and connected with McCurdy for the goal. The Crusaders scored again at the 4:59 mark.
During the final period, at the 16:52 mark, Johnson scored top- shelf from the left wing off a pass from Roth and Huber, bringing the Lions within two. Alvernia went on to score three more goals, to win the game 7-2.
Matthew Bartilini made his first start of the season and recorded 20 saves between the pipes.
Travis McCurdy stated, "We played a hard fought game until the end. They capitalized on our little mistakes, but overall, it was a well played game."
The Lions return to the road Saturday, December 8th to face Towson. The game is slated for 8:15pm.
