Barshinger comes to Bryn Athyn College with a proven track record of building programs at the High School, Club and Collegiate levels.
"I would like to thank Dr. Nelson and the search committee for the opportunity to lead the Men's Volleyball program here at Bryn Athyn. I am eager to work with our student athletes and to guide them as we take the next steps of developing the program," Barshinger said.
As a three year starter for a statewide perennial powerhouse in boys volleyball at Central York High School, Barshinger also played for Yorktowne Volleyball Club and participated in the 1999 USA Volleyball Junior National Championship Tournament in New Orleans, LA. During this time, he was also a member of the Central York Basketball team.
Barshinger participated in Basketball, Golf and Cross Country at Central Penn College. He was selected as captain of the basketball team, and was named to the 2002 All-Star team. While in college, he competed in sand volleyball tournaments and was a volunteer assistant coach with Central York High School.
During his time coaching at Central Penn College, he helped restart a Women's Volleyball program that would finish with a 15-6 season record by the program's third season. He also was an assistant coach for the Women's Basketball program for six seasons.
As the first coach of the Wilson College Men's Volleyball program, Barshinger led the program to key wins over Keuka, D'Youville, and Arcadia. During his time with the Phoenix, he guided the athletes as they achieved NEAC Player of the Week and All-NEAC awards, as well as numerous top ten statistical finishes in the NEAC conference.
Barshinger was named the 2015 Boys Volleyball Coach of the Year by the York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association for his work in rebuilding the New Oxford HS Boys Volleyball program. The team finished with 8 wins by his second season as head coach, and earned a 2nd place finish out of 20 teams at the Elizabethtown tournament.
Most recently, Barshinger helped guide the Abington High School Boys Volleyball program to the most winning season in program history. The team finished 13-6 overall in his first year as head coach. Prior to that, he worked as an assistant to both the boys and girls teams at Abington, and made the PIAA District 1 playoffs each season.
Coach Barshinger has run AAU Club Volleyball programs in both South-central PA and the Philadelphia area. These programs helped develop skill sets for high school student athletes while creating competitive teams that participated in tournaments throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to develop the program from early in our second season. As we focus on our player development, system concepts and recruitment, I know it will be both fun and rewarding to see the growth of our student athletes and the team, Barshinger continued. "My goal is that we strive to be the best version of ourselves every day. The will and desire to be the best outweighs whatever may occur from season to season. I have confidence that we will continue to build a strong and successful program that is both fun to watch and brings pride to our community."
Barshinger lives in Philadelphia with his wife, Jenifer, and daughter, Elianna. He is also the Senior Assistant Director of Admissions for Bryn Athyn College.
