BRYN ATHYN, Pa - After building up the women's volleyball program for the last seven seasons, Coach Dennis Hibbs has decided to step down as the Lions head coach to pursue opportunities outside of college athletics.
In seven seasons, six of which were seasons of competition, Hibbs led the program to three playoff berths and two semifinal appearances.
With Coach Hibbs stepping down, Director of Athletics Dr. Suzanne Nelson executed a search for the new leader of the women's volleyball program. The search committee decided on a familiar face in 2019 graduate with a degree in Early Childhood Education, Amber Wood. Wood was a part of the team that went to the CSAC semifinals in her senior year in 2018. She was a decorated member of the program and sits fourth on the record book list for kills and kills per set. Since graduating from Bryn Athyn, Wood has worked as a teacher and nanny. She also coached volleyball at William Tennent High School and Delta Travel Club.
"I am so excited to be named Head Women's Volleyball Coach at Bryn Athyn College," Coach Amber Wood '19 said. "This is a position I've been dreaming about applying to ever since I graduated in 2019. I had so much fun competing as a student-athlete and such a passion for the school that it was the only natural step to come back and try to help the program succeed. I really feel that with my guidance and experience I can make this a fun, competitive program!"
