MONMOUTH JUNCTION, N.J. - Winning their second conference game of the weekend, the Bryn Athyn College Men's Ice hockey team beat Rutgers 6-3. Maintaining the lead for the majority of the game, the team put on quite the performance. Senior Mike Perkett got his first collegiate hat trick, scoring three goals throughout the game. Eric Higgins scored two goals and James Cole scored one.
During the opening period Rutgers scored first, taking the lead. Later in the period the lions got their first goal tying the game 1-1. It was scored by Eric Higgins with an assist from seniors Zach Pamaylaon and James Cole. Not long after Perkett scored his first goal with an assist from Pamaylaon and freshman Alex Garcia. Ending the first period the Lions led 2-1.
Going into the second Bryn Athyn kept up the pace and scored three more times. Perkett scored twice within the first five minutes. His first shot of the second was assisted by Pamaylaon. His third shot, giving him a hat trick, was an impressive shot on Rutgers. Minutes later Higgins was able to score again with an assist from Pamaylaon. Rutgers was unable to score on Nabozny during the second period. The Lions were now up 5-1.
Entering the third and final period Bryn Athyn was able to keep their lead but Rutgers did manage to score twice more. With less than a second left on the clock and an empty net for Rutgers, James Cole was able to score one final goal for Bryn Athyn with an assist from Pamaylaon. Throughout the entire game Michal Nabozny was able to save 48 of the shots on goal and only letting three in. Making the final score 6-3 Lions.
