BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - Head Coach Heather Schauder announced her coaching staff with the additions of Cheyanne Asplundh and Brittany Gunther '20.

"I am thrilled to have Coach Cheyanne Asplundh and Coach Brittany Gunther join the staff this fall. I've played field hockey with both of them before, so I know their playing styles and believe we all bring a different perspective to this program. I believe all of our styles will compliment each other to help create an environment for the young women on our roster to excel both on and off the field," Schauder said.

Both Asplundh and Gunther are local to the community and graduates of Academy of the New Church. Asplundh was a 2014 graduate of ANC. She went onto play at Connecticut College. During her career with the Camels, Asplundh appeared in 53 games with 19 starts. She registered six goals, four assists, and tallied 16 points in her career. She graduated in 2018 with a degree in Art. She was named t0 the the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad in 2016 and 2017. After graduation, Asplundh returned to the area to coach at Mount Saint Joseph Academy. Asplundh also has completed the USA Field Hockey Umpire clinic.

"I'm very excited to get back into coaching field hockey. I am looking forward to working with Coach Schauder, coaching staff, and the team. I am honored I get to be a part of Bryn Athyn College field hockey program," Asplundh said.

Gunther, a 2020 graduate of Bryn Athyn College, is no stranger to the field hockey program. Gunther was part of the inaugural field hockey team and played three seasons for Bryn Athyn field hockey. She appeared and started in 41 games while logging four goals and four assists for the Lions. Gunther was recognized by the Philadelphia Inquirer in 2019 as All Academic.

"I  am incredibly excited to support Coach Heather Schauder and the Bryn Athyn Field Hockey team this year as an assistant coach. Bryn Athyn field hockey holds a special place in my heart. I was a part of the first field hockey team that Coach Fitzgerald started. I grew the most from my experience with the field hockey program. I loved helping shape the program as a player and am just as excited to join the coaching staff to help continue to build this program," Gunther said.

Bryn Athyn field hockey will return to play on September 9 at Marywood University for their season opener. This will be the first game since 2019 after COVID-19 canceled the 2020 season. The Lions home opener will be September 16 at 7:00 PM as they take on Immaculata.
