ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College field hockey team was voted in fourth in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) preseason coaches poll that was released by the conference office Monday. The voting was conducted by the CSAC's five head field hockey coaches.
The Lions received 12 points in the preseason ranking. Keystone topped the poll with 22 points and three of the five first-place votes. Cedar Crest and Wilson finished in a deadlock for second as they both had 18 points and a first-place vote. The College of Notre Dame (Md.) completed the poll with five points.
Bryn Athyn returns nine players from its inaugural team that posted a pair of victories in 14 outings during the 2017 season. Leading the list of returnees is 2017 All-North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Team selection Payton Boler. Boler finished second in the NEAC with 11 goals and 25 points, both team highs. The Lions also have back their second-leading scorer from last season Bri Lennox who found the back of the net eight times.
The Lions added six new players for this season, including Rochelle Drucker, Kailey Brower, and Eve Miller. Drucker comes to Bryn Athyn after playing one season in goal for Division I LIU Brooklyn in 2016. She appeared in 12 matches during the Blackbirds first-ever season and was 0-3 with a 7.24 goal against average. Brower was an All-Nassau Conference goalie in 2017, while Miller earned All-Cape Atlantic League American Division recognition.
Bryn Athyn opens the 2018 season on Friday, August 31 at Immaculata University at 4 p.m.
