BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - The Bryn Athyn Men's Basketball team received recognition from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on Tuesday afternoon when two Lions were named to the NABC Honors Court. The Lions' Haybert Louchie and Nasir Mosley each garnered NABC Honors Court recognition following their performances in the classroom this year. This is the first time in program history men's basketball has had student-athletes named to the Honors Court.
In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must academically be a junior or senior and a varsity player, have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher for the 2020-21 academic year, matriculated at least one year at their institution, and the team must be a member of the NCAA with a NABC member coach.
In addition, for the firs time in program history, Bryn Athyn Men's Basketball team was awarded the NABC Academic Excellence Award. Team Academic Excellence Awards, created by the NABC Committee on Academics, recognize outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2020-21 season.
Director of Athletics, Dr. Suzanne Nelson, said, "We take academics very seriously at BAC. I'm so proud of our athletes that achieved at a high level in the classroom during a very difficult pandemic year. We are excited to continue to emphasize academic and athletic excellence as part of our mission."
President Brian Blair on the announcement, "The Bryn Athyn Men's Basketball team has continued to build on its academic accomplishments as a team and with individual academic honors. They are setting a standard for our entire athletic program to aspire to."
"I am thrilled for our program and for Haybert and Nas for getting the recognition they deserve for all their hard work. When you achieve a program first, it is always special," Head Coach Sean Westerlund said following Tuesday's announcement. "We have said from day one, we are on the hunt to make history, and our guys have done just that. This program is about more than basketball. It is about helping our young men maximize their potential spiritually, academically, mentally, physically, and athletically. They have raised the bar. Congrats to our men and to Haybert and Nasir for this historic achievement."
