BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - The Bryn Athyn College Men's Soccer program announced its 2021 schedule on Tuesday morning, as the Lions will host seven games at General Ronald K. Nelson Field throughout the regular season. The Lions are returning to the pitch after the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the 2020 season. The last time the Lions took the field, they were a young team that included 15 freshman.
Bryn Athyn will open the 11th season in program history on Wednesday September 1, as the Lions host Albright at 5:30 p.m. The Lions host Penn State Abington one day later on Friday Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. On Sept. 9, the team will travel to Penn State Lehigh Valley for their first road game, before a one game home stand with Desales on Sept. 11. The Lions will hit the road again for a three game road trip against non-conference opponents Delaware Valley, Gwynedd Mercy, and Ursinus College on Sept. 15, Sept. 17 and Sept. 22.
Bryn Athyn will open up CSAC play on Sept. 25 as they host Clarks Summit for a 1 p.m. match. The Lions will play one more non-conference game against Immaculata on Sept. 30 on the road at 7 p.m. Returning to conference play, the Lions will begin their October slate on Oct. 2 on the road at Saint Elizabeth. The team returns home for a big matchup against Cairn on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. The Lions will play host to Wilson on Oct. 9 at 1 p.m before returning to the road to take on crosstown foe, Rosemont on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. Bryn Athyn finishes their regular season home games with a contest against Keystone on Oct. 16 and Penn State Altoona on Oct. 23. The Lions close out their regular season on the road at Valley Forge on October 28.
"I am really excited about our upcoming season. Two years ago, we fielded a team that was mostly made up of under classmen, starting 9 freshmen in the majority of the games. I made a conscience effort to recruit players that would best represent our program on and off the field," Head Coach Bill O'Neill continued. "We have added players in this recruiting class that will push our current players and have character traits that will enhance our family atmosphere. We lost a year of growth development and slated this upcoming year as one the program will make history. We lost some very key leaders such as Zach Brock, Pete Comas, Chris Mitchell, Dawson Broomhead, and Matheus Chaves who were vital in laying the foundation for our program. We will need players to step up and fill those roles if we want to make an impact in the CSAC in 2021. The opportunity we had to participate in non traditional practice this past spring was a great indication of how much we have grown, understanding of work rate, team chemistry, and embracing the Lions Pride!"
The CSAC Playoffs are set to begin October 30, 2021.
