Bryn Athyn, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team defeated Bloomsburg University 8-7 in a thrilling DVCHC match up Friday night.
The Lions were led by Ray Norfo who recorded two goals and two assists. Blake McCurdy added one goal and three assists, while Danny Triesler contributed a goal and two assists. Charlie Livens and Nick Tate each notched a goal and an assist. Dustin Synnestvedt scored the game winning goal with 25 seconds left in the game.
Bloomsburg got on the board first with a power play goal at the 15:43 mark. The Huskies scored again at the 9:56 mark, taking a 2-0 lead. Bryn Athyn answered three minutes later when Tate and McCurdy connected with Norfo who found the back of the net. At the 5:33 mark, Livens passed the puck to the top of the point and found Tate who one-timed the puck into the net, tying the game at 2-2. With three minutes left in the first, Bloomsburg scored the final goal of the period, taking a 3-2 lead.
The Huskies scored twenty seconds into the second period, taking a 4-2 lead. At the 12:46 mark, the Lions came within one when McCurdy hit the top left corner, off of a back door pass from Norfo. Two minutes later, Bryn Athyn tied the game at 4-4 when Synnestvedt connected with Triesler who one-timed it in. At the 6:21 mark, the Lions took the lead when Roth passed the puck into the slot from behind the net and found Livens for the goal. Bloomsburg tied the game up at the 3:56 mark. With 14 seconds left in the period, the Huskies scored, taking a 6-5 lead going into the third.
The Huskies took a 7-5 lead scoring at the 10:28 mark in the third period. At the 5:01 mark, Norfo took control of a loose puck in the neutral zone and skated down the ice to record an unassisted goal. Four minutes later, Roth, assisted by Triesler and McCurdy, scored off a rebound, tying the game at 7-7. With 52 seconds left in the game, goalie Steve Cappas made a diving save, robbing Bloomsburg of a goal, and keeping the Lions' hopes alive. With 25 seconds left in the game, McCurdy and Norfo connected with Synnestvedt, who shot the puck between the goalie's legs for the game winning goal.
Cappas played well between the pipes, recording 47 saves.
McCurdy expressed, "It was a great game for us. We've been working hard in practice and tonight our determination was able to give us the win."
The Lions finish off regular season play tomorrow night with a conference game against Rutgers-Camden. The puck is set to drop at 8:00pm.
