WARMINSTER, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College ice hockey team was denied its third consecutive victory by Brockport as the visiting Golden Eagles came into the Revolution Ice Gardens and handed the Lions a 4-2 loss Saturday afternoon.
Bryn Athyn (10-9-3) had success on the power play in the loss with both goals, scored by Dakota Ulmer in the second and Zach Pamaylaon in the third, coming on the man advantage.
After a fairly quiet start to the contest, the Lions found themselves down two men with four minutes left in the first period. Brockport (13-7-0) cashed in at 16:20 when Connor Hutchins one-timed a cross-ice Ryan Romeo pass from the left faceoff circle into the Bryn Athyn net. Bryn Athyn was down two players again just over a minute later and Romeo snapped a shot from the high slot into the goal to double the gap to 2-0.
Bryn Athyn started the second period with 1:18 of carryover power-play time from the first period. With one second left on that power play, Ulmer ripped a shot from the top of the right circle past the blocker of Matt Schneider, who had 25 saves, to cut the gap to 2-1. Sheldon Brett and Devon Becker each assisted on Ulmer's fifth goal of the year.
A bad bounce off the boards behind the Bryn Athyn net resulting in the puck coming out in front of the goal where the Golden Eagles' Kevin Mainello put it into the goal at 9:18 to make it a two-goal affair once again. Robert Flannery turned a Bryn Athyn turnover in the slot into Brockport's fourth goal at the 11:50 mark.
Bryn Athyn was awarded a five-minute power play just over three minutes into the third period. Pamaylaon needed just 34 seconds of that penalty to one-time an Ulmer pass into a gaping net to pull the Lions within 4-2 with 16:17 still to play. Peter Falivena also picked up an assist on Pamaylaon's fourth goal.
Gabriel Couture stopped 28 shots for the Lions in the loss.
Bryn Athyn will play its final home game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 8 against King's (Pa.) College in Junge Pavilion at 7 p.m.
