PHILADELPHIA – Bryn Athyn College senior defender Brittany Gunther was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Field Hockey Team announced on Monday. The voting was conducted by the sports information offices of 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Gunther is the first field hockey player in program history to earn this honor and the second in Bryn Athyn College history, joining Zach Brock who was named to the Academic All-Area men's tennis team in the spring of 2019.
During the 2019 season, Gunther was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference second team after finishing third in the conference with seven defensive saves. Gunther set the program record for defensive saves in a game with four against Centenary (N.J.) on August 31. She also recorded the Lions goal against Sweet Briar on September 15.
Gunther has nine defensive saves in her career, which places her third all-time in program history, four career goals, and four career assists.
In the classroom, Gunther is a human society major and an English minor with a 3.94 grade point average.
Bryn Athyn finished the season with a 1-13 record.
