Bryn Athyn, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team defeated University of South Florida, 9-2 in non-conference action Friday night.
Justin Nugent and DJ Mulhern scored two goals a piece. Cullen McNally scored one goal and two assists. Billy Martin notched three assists. Travis McCurdy, Paul Napierkowski, Ryan Conery and Shane McCurdy scored one goal each.
The Bulls took first blood scoring at 4:57 mark in the first period. Nugent tied the game on the power play off a pass through the slot from Jayson Marbach with 1:43 left in the period.
South Florida tied the game two minutes into the second period to the tie the game at 2-2. Both teams battled till the Lions took control of the game with less than five minutes of the period. McCurdy scored at the 3:33 mark, off a pass from McNally and Marbach. To end the second period, Napierkowski scored from the point to give the Lions a 5-2 lead.
Bryn Athyn took control of the game in the third period. The Lions scored six answered goals. The Bulls played tough defense till the second part of the third period. Mulhern scored the first goal in the period for the Lions at 9:22. Nugent added to the scoring four minutes later off a pass from Anthony Notofrancesco. With five minutes left in the game, the Lions put in four quick goals, from Conery, McCurdy, Mulhern and McNally.
Steve Altman made 28 saves in net for the Lions.
