Bryn Athyn, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey defeated #1 Neumann University, 7-2, to take first place in the DVCHC conference Sunday afternoon.
Jayson Marbach and Kyle Jennings led the Lions with one goal and two assists. Travis McCurdy put in two goals. Anthony Notofrancesco scored one goal and one assist. Nikita Klinisovs and Chris Ebersole scored one goal each. Ryan Conery, Ryan Hollingshead, Paul Napierkowski and Justin Nugent notched an assist each.
Five minutes into the first period, Hollingshead took a shot from the blue line, which was tipped in by Klinisovs to take a 1-0 lead. At the 5:30 mark, Marbach scored off a pass from Notofrancesco to extend the Bryn Athyn lead. Four minutes later, Jennings scored off a pass from Marbach to give the Lions a 3-0 going into the period break.
With the lead, McCurdy scored on a 5-2 penalty kill, picking up a loose puck on the blue and beat the goalie at the 14:17 mark. Neumann scored back-to-back goals at the 14 and 12-minute marks to bring the game within two. Bryn Athyn answered with a goal from McCurdy with 9:18 left in the second period. With less than two minutes in the period, Ebersole scored to rebuild the Lions lead to 6-2.
Bryn Athyn controls the game in the third, scoring at the 16:09 mark by Notofrancesco to win the game 7-2.
Steven Altman made 23 saves in net for the Lions.
