Bryn Athyn, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team defeated Rowan, 7-3 Friday night in DVCHC conference action.
Prior to the game, the Lions retired the jersey number of #18 Bob Eidse on the ice.
Scott Witmyer led Bryn Athyn with three goals and one assist. Jayson Marbach scored one goal and notched two assists. Nikita Klinisovs scored goal and one assist. Travis McCurdy and Anthony Notofrancesco scored one goal apiece.
Bryn Athyn and Rowan started the first period scoreless till the 5:53 mark. Witmyer scored off a pass from Anthony Astorino, on a delayed power play opportunity. 30 seconds later, Klinisovs tipped in a shot, bar down, off a shot from Notofrancesco on the point to extend the Lions lead to 2-0. Rowan scored with three minutes left in the first period, to keep the game within one goal.
The Profs started the second period, tying the game at 2-2, with 14:31 left in the period. The Lions answered scoring four unanswered goals in the period. McCurdy scored at 9:09, off a pass from Chris Ebersole to retake the lead. Witmyer scored off a pass, from behind the net, from Marbach at 8:04. After picking off a pass in the neutral zone, Witmyer beat the goalie one on one to extend the Lions lead to 5-2 at 7:30. With 30 seconds left in the second period, Notofrancesco tapped in a goal, off a pass from Klinisovs on the blue line.
Rowan would score five minutes into the third period, but Marbach scored at 10:49 to help bring home a 7-3 win for the Lions.
Steven Altman made 36 saves in net for the Lions.
Bryn Athyn will take on Richard Stockton tomorrow night at 8:15 pm at the Revolution Ice Gardens in DVCHC conference action.
