Warminster, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team took down #6 Pitts-Johnstown, 13-6 in game three of the Empire Classic Sunday afternoon.
Scott Witmyer led the Lion with hat-trick and one assist. Connor Buick scored two goals. Kyle Jennings notched a goal and two assists. Cullen McNally, Jayson Marbach, Anthony Notofrancesco, Travis McCurdy, and Craig Boyd scored goal and one assist each.
The Lions took control of the game scoring four unanswered goals in the first period. 28 seconds into the period, NcNally picked up a loose puck in the defensive zone, and took it into the offensive zone with speed and scored. Marbach scored 20 seconds later from the right side to increase the score to 2-0. On a 5-3, McNally shot the puck from the blue line and Notofrancesco punched in the rebound to go up 3-0 at 8:43. Buick scored off the goalie's left pad after cycling the puck to increase the lead to 4-0 with 5:55 left in the period. The Icecats scored their first goal with 5:25 left in the first period. Devyn Dworsky scored with less than two minutes in the period to lift the Lions 5-1.
UPJ scored 40 seconds into the second period to chip away at the Bryn Athyn lead. Witmyer sniped a goal from the blue line, through the five hole to extend the Lions lead to 6-2. The Icecats scored back to back goals to bring the game within two with 9:05 left in the second period. Bryn Athyn took control of the second period, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 9-2 lead to end the period.
Bryn Athyn started the third period scoring back-to-back goals. UPJ scored two goals with less than 12 minutes in the game, but it wasn't enough to take down the Lions with a 13-6 lead.
Steven Altman played in goal for the Lions for his third win of the weekend.
