Men's Ice Hockey Rally Past UNC Wilmington in Game 2 of the National Tournament

Pelham, AL – The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team took down University of North Carolina Wilmington today, 4-1 in second the game of the National Tournament. 

Senior Captian Benjamin Silvers said,"Today's game was a quick turnaround from last night. We were tested mentally and physically by UNC-Wilmington. We were able to come out on top, due to big saves on the backend and making stops at crucial times."

Scott Witmyer led the Lions with three goals. Sean Feyler had one goal and one assist.  Terrence Johnson notched two assists.  Travis McCurdy had one assist.

Both teams started the game playing cautious hockey. The Lions took an early lead, scoring at 13:33 from Witmyer.  He took the shot from top of the circle, off a pass from Feyler and beat the Bear goalie, glove side.  Two minutes later, Feyler scored on the power play at 15:32, through the goalies five-hole from the right circle dot to give Bryn Athyn a 2-0 lead going into the second period.

Bryn Athyn played well defensively in the second period, to keep the score at 2-0 going into the third period. 

UNC Wilmington scored their lone goal at 9:21 on the power play.  They put in a loose puck rebound in front of the Bryn Athyn goal.  Witmyer scored his second goal of the night from bottom of the circle off a pass from McCurdy.  With two minutes left in the game, the Bears took control of the offensive zone, hitting the goal twice. UNC Wilmington pulled their goalie with two minutes left, and Witmyer scored an empty net goal at 19:34 to secure the win for the Lions.

Bryn Athyn out shot UNC Wilmington 38-28. Lions went 1-3 on the power play and killed one penalty kill.

Kyle Watters made 37 saves between the pipes for Bryn Athyn.

Watters expressed,"I think the team did a good job coming together after a slow start to the game. We had guys stepped when they needed to. It was a great team effort overall."

The Lions return to the ice tomorrow to face Hope College in the last game of the pool play at 7 pm CT / 8 pm ET.
