BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College women's soccer team will make its North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament debut when it takes the field against Lancaster Bible College in the opening round Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. on Charger Field.
HOW THEY GOT HERE
After becoming Bryn Athyn's 13th varsity sport just a year ago, the Lions posted a 9-6-0 overall record in 2017—a two-win improvement over last season. Bryn Athyn earned its first-ever NEAC Tournament spot by going 4-2-0 in the southern division to claim the division's third seed.
Lancaster Bible went 7-9-2 during the regular season and claimed the two-seed in the south with a 4-2-0 record against the division.
SERIES HISTORY
The Lions are 0-2-0 in their two-year history against the Chargers. This season, Lancaster Bible defeated Bryn Athyn 3-0 on Oct. 14 on General Ronald K. Nelson Field. The win gave the Chargers the head-to-head tiebreaker and the right to host the opening round contest.
In 2016, the Chargers handed the Lions a 2-0 defeat in the season finale on Oct. 28 in Lancaster.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Bryn Athyn is led by three-time NEAC offensive player of the week Shelby Puccio. Puccio is tied for the NEAC lead in goals with 20—one of 14 players in Division III to score 20 times this season. She is third in the conference, eighth in Division III, with 42 points. In NEAC play, Puccio scored 12 times and racked up 25 points, which are fourth and fifth in the conference, respectively.
Kristen White is the conference's top distributor of the ball with a NEAC-high 14 assists, which also ranked third in Division III. In addition to her passing ability, White has scored seven times, including three match-winning goals. She is 10th in the NEAC with 28 points.
Rose Glass is second on the team in goals with eight and third with 18 points. She has scored five times against NEAC competition.
Allie Warren sits atop the conference with six shutouts, three against the NEAC. She is sitting second with a .842 save percentage, sixth with 116 saves, and seventh with a 1.47 goals against average. Helping lead the defense along with Warren are Shannon Mueller and Gianna Ciccarelli
The Lions are 3-3 away from General Nelson Field.
SCOUTING LANCASTER BIBLE
Raegan Horst is Lancaster Bible's top offensive player with 11 goals and 27 points, which are 8th and 12th, respectively, in the conference. Rachel Kumher is adding seven goals and 20 points.
In the game against Bryn Athyn, Kumher scored two goals and Horst added the third goal and assisted on Kumher's first goal.
Goalies Rheeana Miles and Kendra Brown have split time in goal this season. Brown has started the last eight contests, including the match at Bryn Athyn. Brown is 5-2-1 with a 1.05 goals against average and a .652 save percentage.
