Bryn Athyn, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team took down #14 East Stroudsburg 5-4 in overtime in DVCHC action Friday night.
Billy Reilly, Travis McCurdy, Anthony Notofrancesco, and Justin Nugent scored a goal each. Kyle Jennings scored a goal and one assist. Jayson Marbach, Terrence Johnson, Paul Napierkowski and Sean Feyler notched an assist each.
Reilly knocked in a loose puck in the goalie crease, to put the Lions on top at the 12:38 mark of the first period. McCurdy scored off a pass from Jennings from top of the circle to extend the Bryn Athyn lead to 2-0, three minutes later. The Warriors brought the lead back down to one, after scoring off a deflected shot at the 6:17 mark.
The Warriors tied the game at 2-2 after scoring at the 10:38 mark of the second period. Notafranceso put the Lions back on top, a minute later off a pass from Marbach on a break out off the neutral zone. East Stroudsburg would score 30 seconds later and tied the game at 3-3 heading into the second period break.
East Stroudsburg took control of the third scoring nine minutes into the period to take a one goal lead. Bryn Athyn's Jennings scored three minutes later to tie the game at 4-4. The Warriors had chances to close out the game but the Lions defense stepped up to shut them down. Both teams ended regulation tied 4-4, and went into to overtime.
With 19 seconds left in the OT, Nugent scored off a lose puck in the offensive zone, to bring the Lions their home opener win.
Steven Altman made 52 saves in net for the Lions.
The Lions return back to the ice tomorrow night to take on Delaware in DVCHC action at 8:00 pm.
