Biology professor, Fredrik Bryntesson has been researching Bryn Athyn College’s Athletics’ history since 2013. He recently completed a 1,331-page report on the college’s ice hockey history. This work, called “Bryn Athyn College Ice Hockey – a history 1901-2024” is housed at the Swedenborg Library. The work also includes information about other sports and descriptions of significant historic events at the college. He has given several presentations, including a Bryn Athyn College Colloquium, about the hockey history. His work has partly been sponsored by the college’s research committee, but most of it has been carried out in his spare time. His current project focuses on researching and assembling documents and information about the entire athletics history of the college. He has recently published a summary of the athletics history “BAC Athletics History”, in the college’s Alumni Magazine (summer/fall issue 2024).
Fredrik has over 30 years of experience with athletics at Bryn Athyn College of the New Church. He was a student-athlete while attending the college, playing both ice hockey and soccer. His wife, Hilary, was the Athletic Director 2002-08, and he helped her with various aspects of athletics during this time, including setting up and maintaining the first Bryn Athyn College athletics website in the early 2000s. Fredrik later served as the college’s Faculty Athletics Representative 2013-19 which provided him with valuable insights into athletics at the college level, and, especially, Bryn Athyn College athletics.
He has a passion for photography and spent countless hours as a volunteer taking pictures of sports events. Between 2014 and 2025, Fredrik took photos for 443 Bryn Athyn sports contests and 135 other athletics-related events – truly a labor of love. His efforts are testament to his support of the college, the athletics program, coaches, and especially the student-athletes.
